ABOUT ME
Dr. Kandace Madise Johnson is a native and resident of south Louisiana. GO LSU & GO SAINTS! She earned a BA in Sociology from Louisiana State University where she was on the dean’s list and awarded the LSU Black Faculty & Staff Academic Achievement Award. She also earned an MS in Applied Sociology and a Graduate Certificate in Non-Profit Management from the University of Texas at Dallas. Dr. Johnson earned a Doctorate Degree in K-12 Educational Leadership from Argosy University. Dr. Johnson has worked in the field of education with a focus on early childhood education & students with disabilities at the early childhood, elementary, and secondary level in traditional public schools and charter schools in Texas and Louisiana.
Dr. Johnson’s career in education began in 2004 when she taught Resource English I-IV and Reading Enrichment to high school special education students in the Dallas area. She has worked as a Behavior Specialist, Instructional Specialist, Professional Development Coach, Special Education Coordinator, and Director of Special Education & Student Support. She has several years of experience in developing and providing professional development for teachers and leaders in public, private, and charter schools. Dr. Johnson has a wide array of experience including but not limited to the following areas: special education, classroom management, educational leadership, early childhood education, early intervention, elementary & secondary education, charter schools, non-profit management, grant research, program development, and program review. She also works as an adjunct faculty member and university clinical supervisor for student teacher candidates. Dr. Johnson has a passion for mentoring and coaching new educators.
Dr. Johnson also has experience as a Peer Grant Reviewer in addition to writing and being awarded various grants. She was also featured on the WYES-TV New Orleans Series – American Graduate: Louisiana Opportunities which aired on August 20, 2015. Click here to view the episode. Dr. Johnson was nominated, selected, and graduated as a member of the 2015 New Orleans Bryan Bell Metropolitan Leadership Forum. She was also a member of the Stand for Children Louisiana-Inaugural Cohort of the Education Leadership Institute in 2016. Dr. Johnson was also selected as a member of the 2017 Emerging Philanthropists of New Orleans cohort. In the EPNO cohort, she had the opportunity to attend philanthropy and non-profit development sessions, evaluate grant proposals, conduct site visits, interview applicants, work with teammates to decide where grant funds can have the highest impact, and make the case for who should win grants. Dr. Johnson is a board member for an emerging non-profit organization that serves NOLA youth. Hope Community Resource Center provides tutoring and mentoring services to elementary and middle school students. In her spare time, she enjoys reading, attending church, spending time with family, watching HGTV, and trying new restaurants.
